Hours:
Beginning 11 May 2009, the search room will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. New materials will not be paged after 4:30 p.m.

The search room is open most Saturdays (except weekends preceding or following a University holiday) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
New materials will not be paged after 12:30 p.m., and reference service is limited. Researchers are encouraged to contact reference staff (mss@email.unc.edu) at least three days in advance of arriving on a Saturday.

The Department is closed on University holidays. Upcoming holiday closures include Saturday May 23, Monday May 25, Friday July 3 and Saturday July 4.

We do not offer same-day photocopying. Please plan accordingly. Researchers are strongly encouraged to use digital cameras to photograph unrestricted collections.

From Raleigh and points east:

• Take Interstate 40 west
• Take exit 273 (Highway 54) towards Chapel Hill
• Continue straight on Raleigh Road (Highway 54) for about 4 miles

From Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and points west:

• Take Interstate 85
• Take Interstate 40 east towards Raleigh
• Take exit 273 (Highway 54) towards Chapel Hill

From Durham and points north:

• Take Interstate 85 to intersection with Highway 15-501 south
• Follow 15-501 south towards Chapel Hill; keep right as the highway divides
• Follow on 15-501 South (Bypass), bearing left as Franklin Street splits to the right
• Turn right onto the Highway 54 exit towards UNC-Chapel Hill

From Highway 54:

• The traffic light at the top of the hill marks the intersection of South Road (the continuation of Raleigh Road) and Country Club Road
• As you approach the light, turn into the UNC Visitor Parking Lot* on the right
• The parking lot is about 3 blocks from Wilson Library.
• Walk onto campus along South Road. You will pass the old Chapel Hill Cemetery and the Student Union on the right.
• The back of Wilson Library faces the Bell Tower on the left side of South Road (the front faces the Polk Place quadrangle).
• Enter the building via the side entrance between Wilson Library and the Undergraduate Library. This entrance is wheel chair accessible.
• Take the elevator or stairs to the 4th floor.
